Once upon a time, the sky was falling. Google announced that all sites that weren’t “mobile-friendly” would receive a reduced ranking in mobile search results. But we weren't chicken. Fortunately, I'd already seen the responsive writing on the wall and, although our site at the time was woefully out of date, had already begun working on a fix behind the scenes. A complete redesign was still caught in red tape, so retrofitting responsiveness was the obvious solution. In the end, by the time the official announcement was made, my pet project saved us with a green light from Google.
